POST.O

Position: exhibited artist

Topos is the aspect of contemporary art in Taiwan that has been most impacted by growing internationalization and globalization, and our definition of what can be considered topos has become increasingly rigid during the course of its development over the last twenty years. Consequently, topos is either passé, is unable to respond to existing social conditions, or tends too much toward homogeneity when circulating in consumer society. Today, in light of globalization's growing influence on every part of our cultural landscape, topos no longer merely implies a desperate defense of identity or a position on the fringe. Under Zygmunt Bauman's notion of society in liquid times, and Brian Holmes's notion of flexible personality, topos becomes an opportunity for creativity since a locale can be generated through certain operations. The significance of the exhibition title POST.O is that it represents the phase we find ourselves in now; we are no longer groping at regional history as indicated by topography, or defining ourselves through a place situated somewhere in the continuity of the Earth's surface, but on the contrary, inventing locales as they are needed.

SUMO STUDIO

Position: Co-founder

SUMO STUDIO is a group of associated artists who have in common a particular interest in public space and who have chosen to develop and push forward specific projects together along with their own practice.

They work without any fixed studio. The nature of their interventions depends essentially on the places where they stay on a variable temporary basis (weeks, months). They are looking to redefine the site they are investigating and by doing so to reveal its social dimension and poetic potentiality.
